BANYAN CREATES RESELLER COUNCIL;
GIVES FORMAL VOICE TO COMPANY'S RESELLER CHANNEL
WESTBORO, Mass., June 4, 1990 -- Banyan Systems, the leader in
corporate-wide PC networking, today announced that it had
established the Banyan Reseller Council, a representative advisory
body with members drawn from the company's Value Added Reseller
(VAR) channel, Banyan's predominant means of distributing its
products to customers throughout the United States and around the
world.
As its mission, the Council will provide a forum for the consistent
exchange of information between Banyan and its Resellers with the
goals of enhancing their business partnership, maintaining the
quality and effectiveness of the channel, and ensuring the business
success of Banyan's Reseller community in general.

"Banyan is solidly committed to building and strengthening its
Reseller Channel," said Banyan Vice President James Allchin. "The
new Council is the ideal vehicle for facilitating the effective
two-way communications needed between Banyan and its Resellers to
promote optimal responsiveness to the corporate-wide PC networking
market, and to ensure our mutual growth and profitability."
In particular, the Council has the following charter:
* Represent to Banyan executive management the common strategic and
tactical issues affecting Resellers.
* Actively solicit feedback and issues from Resellers concerning
the Banyan/Reseller relationship.
* Provide feedback and guidance on Banyan's policies, procedures,
programs, and strategic direction relative to the Reseller channel.
* Provide an understanding of Resellers' business issues,
especially as they relate to Banyan's products/services.
* Provide input and direction on the competition and trends within
the marketplace.
* Make recommendations to Banyan regarding Reseller meetings,
including proposed topics and Council/Reseller participation.
Created on April 29, 1990, the Banyan Reseller Council has nine
members representing a cross-section of the Reseller Channel
relative to such considerations as geography, size of firm, type
of value added, and tenure with Banyan.

Members are selected annually by Banyan executive management.
Staggered terms allow for continuity as the membership changes.
Five members serve for two years; four for one year. Banyan assigns
each Council member a group of Resellers by district (outside that
member's own geographic territory) whom they represent on the
Council. Meetings are held once each calendar quarter.
The first Banyan Reseller Council Chairman is Pat Connolly, CEO of
Connolly Data Systems of Lowell, Mass. Banyan's oldest VAR (since
early 1985), Connolly Data Systems is the top Banyan Reseller in
New England, and one of the top ten Banyan Resellers.
Said Connolly, "CDSI, and I personally, are very excited and happy
that Banyan has instituted the Reseller Council. This Council will
be the platform and conduit that will allow Banyan Resellers direct
technical and marketing input into Banyan's top management. In
taking the liberty to speak for other Council members, I believe
the Spring, 1990, ABUI meeting in Washington, DC, was a wonderful
kickoff for the Reseller Council. Banyan's management made it clear
that it is fully committed to its Reseller Channel. Both parties
expressed their commitment to form a close knit and cooperative
partnership."
